Job Summary

The Welder is responsible for performing welding, fabrication, and repair work on facility equipment, structures, and related systems. This role supports overall maintenance operations by ensuring structural integrity, minimizing downtime, and maintaining a safe working environment. The ideal candidate is skilled, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious, with strong technical expertise in welding processes and metal fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding tasks using MIG, TIG, and stick welding techniques on a variety of metals and structures
• Fabricate, assemble, and repair metal components, equipment, and structural elements
• Inspect equipment and structures to identify damage, wear, and required repairs
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
• Cut, shape, and prepare metal materials using appropriate tools and equipment
• Ensure all welding and fabrication work meets safety standards and quality specifications
• Maintain and repair fences, gates, railings, piping systems, and structural frameworks
• Operate and maintain welding equipment, tools, and fabrication machinery
• Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and fire prevention procedures
• Support general maintenance activities as needed to ensure facility functionality
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• At least 3 years’ welding experience
• Welding certification preferred but not required

Required Skills

• Proven experience as a welder or fabricator in a maintenance, industrial, or similar environment
• Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding techniques
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
• Strong knowledge of metal properties, fabrication methods, and welding standards
• Experience operating cutting tools, grinders, and fabrication equipment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Strong understanding of workplace safety standards and procedures

Physical Requirements

• Proof of measles vaccination or updated titers prior to initial contact with animals.
• Current results of TB testing or be tested prior to initial contact with animals.
• Annual tuberculosis screening is required of all employees.
• Employees may occasionally need to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to operate facility equipment.
• Required to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment in each area as described by SOPs.
• Has the ability to withstand ambient temperatures which may exceed 90°F.
• Personnel must be able to carry out the essential functions of this position with reasonable accommodation if disabled.
