Movement Disorder Specialist

The Department of Neurology at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), a major academic medical center within the Hackensack Meridian Health system, seeks to employ a full time BE/BC Movement Disorder Neurologist. The successful candidate will have completed a residency in Neurology & a fellowship in Movement Disorders. Faculty rank at the School of Medicine is commensurate with experience. They will join 3 adult & 1 pediatric movement disorder neurologists & 2 functional neurosurgeons. We feature interprofessional programs for HiFU, NPH, fast-track-to- DBS & Advanced Care for Parkinson’s. We seek candidates with interest in outcomes research, clinical trials, translational research, and teaching of medical & graduate students & residents. The Department espouses an interprofessional approach in which neurologists, neurosurgeons & neuro/health psychologists & rehab therapists who are cognizant of health care disparities strive to provide patient-centered care, accurate diagnoses, state-of-the-art treatment, opportunities for clinical trials & to maximize community living.

This position will be jointly recruited by Umer Akbar, MD, Chief, Division of Movement Disorders & Professor of Neurology, Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, and Florian P. Thomas, MD, PhD, Professor & Chair of the Neuroscience Institute & the Department of Neurology at HUMC & the School of Medicine. The position is mostly outpatient with no more than 4 weeks annually of inpatient service. Compensation & vacation time are competitive with standards in the North East. Valley Health System, in affiliative with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, is actively recruiting a Pediatric Gastroenterologist to join the team as Medical Director of the Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Program.

The Director of Pediatric Gastroenterology is the lead provider in an active and growing practice which provides consultation and other professional services as part of the Valley-Mount Sinai Children’s Health program to patients up to the age of 21. The Medical Director will help in expanding an already strong regional referral network and outpatient support structure in collaboration with stakeholders at the Valley Hospital (VH), the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital and community practices. The Medical Director will provide clinical expertise in the areas of nutrition, disorders of intestinal function, intestinal inflammatory disorders and endoscopy while furthering program development. In addition, this clinician provides consultation and education for Valley Hospital outlets and staff, supports the Kireker Center for Children’s Development (KCCD) clinicians, Valley Hospital pathology and laboratory services, and other interested community groups.
The doctor will spend 80% of their time in clinical activities and 20% of their time managing the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Valley Mount Sinai Children’s Health.

We are currently seeking an experienced ABMG/ABP-certified, specifically in Molecular Genetics to join busy multi-subspecialty practice group as our Associate Laboratory Medical Director. The successful candidate will have experience in molecular genetic laboratory testing, clinical assay development and validation, equity control and quality assurance, interpretation of lab test results, reporting and consultation with physicians and other healthcare providers. The candidate will also take clinical and administrative responsibility for the Molecular Genetics Laboratory.

  • Join 11 other established Pathologists to provide a wide range of care

  • We have on-site ancillaries including laboratory, radiology, and an infusion center

  • State of the art 50,000 sq ft centralized laboratory with pathology, cytology, immunohistochemistry and now digital lab supporting advanced diagnostics

Qualifications

  • MD, MD/PhD, or DO required.
  • Board Certified Physician – certified by American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology
  • Board Certification in Molecular Genetics Pathology
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the States of New Jersey and New York
  • NJ Bioanalytical License
  • At least 2 years of post-board certification experience working in clinical cytogenetics and molecular diagnostics laboratories is preferred.
  • Previous experience in both germline and somatic genetic testing is preferred
