The Student Nurse Extern Program is a 10-week paid learning opportunity open to nursing students who are within 1 year of their anticipated graduation from an accredited RN program.Β Through a mentoring relationship with a Registered Nurse, Student Nurse Externs are able to enhance their clinical skills by providing direct care, practicing within the scope of a clinical assistant while receiving observational learning experiences of the bedside nurse by working one on one with their RN mentor/preceptor.
The 2026 Program starts May 26th and ends August 9th, 2026.
Student Nurse Externs are per diem employees, which can allow for some scheduling flexibility; however, it is required that participants be available for the duration of the program and for the designated weekly hours.
Note, current ECH employees are excluded from this opportunity.
Qualifications / Job Requirements:
Must be entering your senior year of an accredited AAS or BSN Nursing Program (must provide an unofficial transcript)
Provide a letter of recommendation from a nursing faculty member
Must be in good academic standing, however if GPA is lower than 3.0, two letters of recommendation from nursing faculty are required (at least one from a clinical instructor)
Have a current BLS card (not expiring during the extern program)

Unit Description: Β At University of Vermont Health β Elizabethtown Community Hospital, we offer easy access and a comfortable setting for administering intravenous medications, blood, fluids and other infusion therapies.
Common infusions at the center include:
Blood transfusions
Biological treatments forΒ rheumatoid arthritis
Crohnβs disease
Gout
Iron replacement therapy
Multiple sclerosis (MS)
Osteoporosis
Plaque psoriasis
Ulcerative colitis
Additional drugs and therapeutic agents infused for other needs may be accommodated.
On-Call: Not Required
Requirements:
- Current RN licensure recognized by the State of New York required.
- Appropriate experience in specific clinical area. Varies by unit.

The Executive Director (ED) in Elizabethtown, NY, is tasked with leading and managing the overarching strategy, operations, and finances of the client, an organization dedicated to providing affordable housing in the Adirondacks.
Collaborating closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and regional communities, the ED's goal is to strengthen and expand the clients resources and community impact amidst a growing emphasis on regional housing solutions.
As a figurehead for the client, the ED represents its values and mission, engaging with key stakeholders to promote their initiatives and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
The client, originally formed in 1978, focuses on improving housing conditions for North residents.
It operates with an annual budget between $1.5M and $2M and employs 16 staff members under the guidance of a dedicated Board of Trustees.
Their programs provide rental assistance through over 900 Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, oversee community real estate developments, and offer home repair and rehabilitation services.
Additionally, the client manages housing counseling services and a rental portfolio that includes several small rental buildings and a multifamily unit in a USDA program.
The client also supports a separate nonprofit to ensure long-term housing affordability.
The ED will lead these diverse programs by providing visionary leadership and implementing sustainable strategies that reflect the clients mission.
Among the responsibilities are developing effective program initiatives, maintaining robust funding strategies through collaboration with the Board and other stakeholders, and ensuring operational excellence with a team-oriented and transparent organizational culture.
The ED is also involved in ensuring the financial oversight and regulatory compliance while fostering relationships with local and national organizations to secure necessary resources.
