As an Orthopedic Physician Assistant, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care. This position involves working closely with our orthopedic surgeons in clinical consultations, pre- and post-operative care, and assisting in surgical procedures while ensuring optimal patient outcomes. The PA will also be responsible for patient education, treatment planning, and maintaining patient documentation. This is a 40-hour position, flexible shifts required.

About the Role

Position Overview
A Massachusetts academic medical center is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide inpatient neurosurgery coverage. This locum assignment offers 12-hour shifts, three days per week, with no call responsibilities. The ideal candidate has recent neurosurgery or surgical inpatient experience and is comfortable managing neurosurgical patients in collaboration with residents and APP colleagues.

- Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week
- Setting: Inpatient ? Neurosurgery service
- Procedures: JP drain removals (preferred but not required)
- Patient Load: 5?12 patients per day
- Support Team: Multiple APPs and residents on service; no OR duties and no critical procedures required
- Call: None

- Agency Note: HPA Healthcare is Joint Commission?certified. Prepaid travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance are included.
Responsibilities
- Manage inpatient neurosurgery patients in an acute care setting.
- Perform patient rounds, admissions, consults, and discharges.
- Conduct JP drain removals and routine bedside procedures (preferred).
- Collaborate with residents, APPs, and attending neurosurgeons to deliver coordinated care.
- Document thoroughly and accurately in EMR (Epic).
- Respond to patient status changes in collaboration with supervising physicians.
Skills & Experience
- Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care) or Physician Assistant
- Active Massachusetts license (required)
- DEA and CSR required
- Prior inpatient neurosurgery or surgical hospitalist experience strongly preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary academic team
