Responsible for management of all clinical and non- clinical operations within the department. Formulates policies and procedures as per industry standards which contribute to the mission of the organization. Maintains operations for appropriate modality accreditations. Assumes responsibility and accountability for operations within the department to include the ability to plan, organize and direct the activities of others. Performs exams and routine radiographs at a technical level under the direction of a radiologist. The Certified Surgical Tech First Assistant (CSTFA) works as a member of the perioperative team under the direction of the surgeon. He/she performs responsibilities of both the Surgical Technologist and the Surgical First Assistant based on department needs and as directed by the department leadership. The CSTFA practices within the scope of the job description and performs clinical and technical skills under surgeon supervision to assist with carrying out a safe operation with optimal patient results. The CSTFA is educated and skilled in both the handling and use of surgical instruments on tissues. The CSTFA does not concurrently function as the scrub nurse.
