The Denver Health Inpatient Operating Room is an 11-room, highly specialized surgical unit that provides 24/7 surgical care to patients with complex and high-acuity needs. Serving the community of Denver, the State of Colorado, and surrounding states, the unit supports a full spectrum of surgical services through continuous staffing, which minimizes the need for call while maintaining exceptional patient care.
Staffed by a highly experienced and skilled clinical team, the Inpatient OR specializes in a wide range of surgery services, including:
General surgery
Trauma
Spine and Neurosurgery
Bariatric
Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)
Genitourinary and Gynecology (GU/GYN)
Plastics and Hand
Gender affirmation
Pediatrics
Oral maxillofacial and Dental
Ophthalmology
Orthopedics
Oncology
Vascular surgery
The unit also houses a state-of-the-art Hybrid Operating Room, allowing for advanced image-guided vascular and endovascular procedures.
Additionally, the Denver Health Bariatric Surgery Center-located within the inpatient OR-is the only MBSAQIP-certified (Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program) hospital in Denver serving both adolescents (ages 16-20) and adults (ages 21-65).
The nurse-to-patient ratio in the Inpatient OR is 1:1, ensuring highly personalized surgical care.
Job Summary
The Lead Surgical Technologist is a clinical expert for assigned surgical specialties. Under minimal supervision, assumes service line leadership in collaboration with the Service Leader, Charge Nurse, OR Manager and Director to identify and resolve operational issues and/or needs. This includes, but is not limited to: analyzing patient charts to plan for upcoming surgical procedures, evaluating equipment, supply and instrumentation needs, collaborating with vendors and internal auxiliary departments, selection, training and mentoring of team members, pulling cases, supporting teams, performing scrub duties and technical tasks pursuant to Colorado Revised Statutes, Title 12 Article 43.2. The Lead maintains an understanding of, and ensures compliance, with the regulatory standards, operating room policies and standard work protocol.
Essential Functions:
  • CASE MANAGEMENT
    Utilizes the surgery schedule, patient chart and Surgical Preference Cards to prepare for upcoming surgical procedures by: analyzing block times, physician notes, diagnostic tests, previous surgeries, equipment availability, supply and instrument needs. Communicates with physicians when questions arise. Arranges for vendor support and specialty items (equipment, supplies, implants, etc.). Collaborates with leadership team when making staff assignments. Builds, maintains and makes updates to Surgical Preference Cards.

    Oversees the members of a surgical specialty service to ensure that it is performing effectively and providing optimal patient care. Proactively approaches each surgical case by: assessing patient needs, evaluating, planning, collaborating, and encouraging positive communication while directing the healthcare team. Arranges for broken or damaged items to be repaired or replaced. Researches and arranges for the use of new technology, equipment and supplies. We are hiring a Mechanic for our Denver Plant! If you have experience with truck maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair—especially with ready-mix or heavy equipment—we want to hear from you!

You will perform general maintenance and repair ready-mix trucks, ensuring equipment reliability and safe operation. The role focuses on conducting preventative maintenance, diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, and responding promptly to service requests. You will also help maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment while collaborating with team members and leadership to keep equipment in top working condition.

What you will be doing

  • Install, maintain, and repair machinery, equipment, physical structures, plumbing, and electrical systems according to specifications and manuals
  • Inspect and listen to machines to identify causes of malfunctions and determine necessary repairs
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance
  • Communicate promptly and effectively with shop leadership regarding major issues and repair updates
  • Operate mobile equipment, including service trucks, to retrieve or service downed assets
  • Perform daily preventive maintenance on service vehicles, including fueling, cleaning, fluid checks, and tire / light inspections
  • Service and maintain pumps, motors, and related components as needed
  • Weld, repair, and fabricate metal parts or assemblies as required
  • Purchase repair parts and materials as needed to complete maintenance tasks
  • Provide on-site service support at other BURNCO plants or job sites when required
  • Assist in training and mentoring co-workers to ensure consistent maintenance practices
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas at all times
  • Follow all BURNCO safety policies, procedures, and operational standards
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

What we would like from you

  • Minimum of one year of truck mechanic experience required
  • Solid understanding of truck mechanics and general maintenance practices
  • Skilled in using power tools, welders, cutting torches, chains, and appropriate safety devices
  • Knowledge of standard maintenance procedures, including lockout / tagout and special work permits
  • Proficient with computers and maintenance-related software systems
  • Experience with Allison transmissions, Davie 4, and ESA software preferred
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly and effectively in English
  • Must supply personal tools up to 3⁄4-inch drive
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • High school diploma is considered an asset
  • Experience with concrete mixers and aggregate haul trucks preferred

Location and other key details:

  • This is a full-time permanent field-based position located at our Denver Plant, 5901 York Street, Denver, CO 80216
  • Regular outdoor work with exposure to a range of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow
  • Use of fine motor skills such as manual dexterity, hand / eye coordination, and active hearing and vision
  • Standing, walking, climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, and pushing or pulling as needed
  • Regular exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, moving equipment, oil, debris, solvents, smoke, gases, fumes, and aggregate materials
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety shoes, vests, and glasses, ear plugs, and hard hats, with additional PPE for tasks like welding or repairs
  • This is a safety-sensitive position requiring successful completion of PSP, MVR, background check, and pre-employment drug test
  • Travel to various jobs required as needed

Salary Range: $33 and up, rate determined based on experience
