JOB SUMMARY

 

The Assistant Nursing manager is a Registered Nurse (RN) who has responsibility for the supervision of patient care, clinical personnel, and unit operations. This position supervises a work group to ensure that a high quality, cost-effective patient and family centered care is provided in support of the hospital's strategic plan, and the function's goals and objectives.

 

This position works collaboratively with functional leadership and is responsible for the oversight of daily operations of the assigned department including off shift and weekend supervision of nursing and non-licensed staff. This position manages resources, quality improvement, payroll, creating and maintaining colleague schedules and monitors patient throughput to facilitate efficient clinical operations. In addition, this position is responsible for a safe and therapeutic unit environment, which includes working in the department as staff RN to assist as needed.

 

This position supports leadership in ensuring standards of excellence and professional development are fostered and met. This position also participates in and may lead Performance Improvement work in their assigned department.



Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required. Master’s Degree preferred.

 

Experience: Two (2) years of experience as RN in acute medical surgical unit required, One year of supervisory experience preferred.

 

Licensure, Certification, Registration:

 

  • Current Connecticut License Registered Nurse

 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications within 90 days of hire. Ability to obtain and maintain department specific certifications. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and certification in clinical area preferred.

Introducing this excellent opportunity to join the obstetric team at Hartford Hospital. Our Labor and Delivery unit is a high risk referral center for the area and performs approximately 4,000 deliveries per year. Our Obstetric Triage unit evaluates more than 3,000 patients per year. As the volume and acuity of our patients has grown, we are looking to bolster our inpatient obstetric service with 24/7 APP coverage.  

Strong clinical reasoning and excellent communication skills required. This role functions both independently and in collaboration with nurses, residents, and attending physicians.  This position will report to the OB/GYN Hospitalist Director. 

Advanced Practitioner Role Scope:     

  • Care for patients admitted or being triaged across our Obstetric service line. 

  • Help on Labor and Delivery with admissions, magnesium sulfate checks and labor checks when residents unavailable, during sign-out and periods of higher volume. 

  • Rounding and evaluating our antepartum patients as needed based on volume and resident coverage.  Evaluation may include concerns for labor, elevated BP’s, infection or medication orders. Help with biophysical profiles (BPP’s) for non-reactive NST’s and limited obstetric ultrasound  

  • Typical postpartum care includes rounding, discharge planning, coordination of inpatient consults, responding to elevated blood pressures, postpartum or postoperative concerns, medication reconciliation and placement of Nexplanon.  

  • If needed in triage you will evaluate pregnant patients for pre-term/term labor, rupture of membranes, bleeding, high blood pressure, pre-eclampsia, abdominal pain and a variety of other complaints. There is always an attending assigned to cover our service serving as backup to the residents and APP’s. 

 

Schedule:  3 – 13.3 hour shifts per week (day and night rotation); night/weekend shift differentials apply

Qualifications

The Colleague Health Services Nurse (RN) is responsible for the delivery of the customer focused, clinical programs of Colleague Health Services which promote the health and safety of all Hartford HealthCare colleagues.  Ensuring regulatory compliance with OSHA Standards, CDC Guidelines, and applicable federal/state guidance for healthcare workers. Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following:

  • Implements health promotion programs and illness/injury prevention programs to prevent occupational injury and health problems. Programs include: universal vaccination, respiratory protection, tuberculosis surveillance, blood borne pathogens, hearing conservation and environmental safety. 
  • Ensures timely medical clearance for all new colleagues by monitoring pre-employment examinations as well as determines medical clearance status for some colleagues.
  • Completes appropriate documentation in electronic health records and other associated programs based on OSHA Standards, CDC Guidelines, and applicable federal/state guidance for healthcare workers.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of new programs to support Colleague Health Services


Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school

Experience:

  • 3-5 years Nursing experience
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, CDC guidelines, infectious disease and worker safety program requirements for a healthcare setting strongly preferred

POSITION SUMMARY:

Utilizing the nursing process, provides high quality direct and indirect patient centered care. Coordinates patient care by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. Communicates, as appropriate, the patient’s clinical condition, responding quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic milieu, with age-specific behavioral management practices. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population served. Promotes the profession of nursing and professional practice through collegial support and interactions. Reports to the Clinical Coordinator. Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nursing and have a current Registered Nurse license with the state of Connecticut.

  • Must be trained in de-escalation techniques, and receive certification within the orientation period of hire.

  • Must receive RQI certification within three (3) months of hire and maintain clinical competency during employment within this role. 

COMPETENCIES:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively using the English language in both verbal and writing situations.

  • Must possess basic computer skills.

  • Must be capable of taking swift and efficient action, including patient restraint when responding to patient emergency codes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  4. Follows the seven (7) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Demonstrates knowledge of medications including psychotropic drugs and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition as evidenced by chart audits and supervisor observation.

  5. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and promotes positive patient outcomes as evidenced by supervisor observation.

  6. Documents the nursing process and responses to care in a timely manner utilizing the appropriate tools as evidenced by chart audits and supervisor observation.

  7. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Utilizes critical thinking skills and sound judgment in priority setting and delegation as evidenced by supervisor observation.

  8. Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate as evidenced by chart audits and supervisor observation.
