The Department of Dermatology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks an accomplished Mohs micrographic surgeon to serve as Director of Mohs Surgery and Program Director of the ACGME-accredited Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology (MSDO) Fellowship.
Role Description and Candidate Requirements
This position offers a unique opportunity to lead and further expand an established Mohs surgery program within one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers.
As the leader of the unit, the Director will focus on advanced cutaneous oncology, Mohs surgery and complex reconstruction within a tertiary academic medical center, maintaining a strong commitment to quality healthcare delivery across the Washington Heights and midtown Manhattan campuses, with potential for future expansion to Westchester. The Director will oversee clinical operations of the Mohs unit, while advancing its strategic growth and ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and the academic mission of the MSDO Fellowship.
The successful candidate will manage high-risk and complex skin cancers and collaborate with multidisciplinary oncology and surgical teams. He/she will directly supervise the training of MSDO fellows, oversee the dermatology resident surgical curriculum, and mentor medical students and other trainees. The Director will develop clinical/translational research initiatives in cutaneous oncology and reconstructive outcomes and collaborate with the Columbia Dermatology biobank to advance skin biology and disease research throughout the institution.
Candidates must have an MD, DO, or foreign equivalent degree and completed an ACGME accredited dermatology residency training program and fellowship in Micrographic Surgery & Dermatologic Oncology. Candidates must be board certified in Dermatology and Micrographic Surgery & Dermatologic Oncology. Candidates must have least 5 years of experience in an academic program. Candidates must be able to acquire a New York State medical license and valid DEA certificate. We are looking for a highly motivated physician interested in working with an urban, ethnically diverse, underserved population in a dynamic and supportive academic setting. The hospital is easily accessible by public transportation and car from all areas of New York City, New Jersey and Long Island.
Responsibilities include chemotherapy infusion, consultations, teaching of residents and medical students and participation in clinical research.
