Under regular supervision, performs a variety of routine and complex transportation work in driving a bus to transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to a time schedule. Reports to the Shift Supervisor and Transit Supervisor.
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
Drives bus over city routes and does special tours for educational and promotional purposes.
Complies with local traffic regulations.
Performs Pre & Post Walk-Around Inspections.
Reports changes in routes, delays or accidents.
Gets fuel and checks oil, water and tire pressure.
Performs cosmetic maintenance such as washing exterior of bus, sweeping and dusting the interior of bus.
Operates a variety of equipment and machinery including gasoline and diesel powered vans or buses, cellular telephone, mobile radio, AVL data terminal with letter keyboard, computer, computerized fuel system, public address equipment, wheelchair equipment (securement devices and fold-over floor), etc.
Uses a variety of tools and supplies including small hand counter, etc.
Minimum qualifications & Requirements
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and must be able to complete on-the-job training satisfactorily; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid state driver's license, and have the ability to obtain a commercial driver's license certification with passenger and airbrake endorsement within the first 6 months of employment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assembles tools, equipment, and materials and performs specific work tasks on city-owned grounds.
Supervises a small crew of workers in the maintenance and improvement of City grounds.Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from supervisor.
Has general knowledge of plant and tree varieties and their proper maintenance requirementsincluding the ability to perform proper pruning techniques on trees and shrubs in accordance with
ANSI standards.
Mows and maintains parks, streetscapes, beautification areas, public building grounds and hwy rite of ways. Cleans and maintains tennis courts, parking lots, playgrounds, sidewalks and boardwalks.Carries out the seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, pest and weed control of parks and open spaces.
Sprays shrub beds, trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns using a variety of sprayers and chemicalsin accordance with the Department of Pesticide Regulation. Maintains application records.
Installs turf, trees, shrubs, and flowers.Installs and maintains benches, picnic tables, signs and other amenities in parks and beautification areas.
Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems.Picks up and disposes of litter, paper, and rubbish from parks, playgrounds, public building grounds, streetscapes, highway rite of ways, sidewalks and beautification areas.
Constructs decorative flower garden borders from wood, bricks and concrete using hand tools.
Prunes, fertilizes, and sprays trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns, using hand tools and power sprayers.Repairs and paints benches and assists in repair of roads, walks, buildings, and mechanical equipment, using hand tools.
Assist Horticulturist with scheduling tasks, plant selection and installation, fertilizer application,irrigation repair and installation and light equipment repair and upkeep. Assist Horticulturist as the site manager of the Community Garden. Plants and maintains the "Vandals Plot". Tills garden plots as needed. Maintains Garden Shed and supplies. Maintains Community Garden grounds. Assists with setting up programs and activities for the gardeners. Communicates with gardeners about issues and monitors activities to ensure that guidelines are adhered to.

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent with two years of experience in building and grounds maintenance and repair work; or any equivalent of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Must have a valid South Carolina driver's license or the ability to obtain one. Pesticide or Herbicide applicator's license desirable.
