Georgetown University and MedStar Health are seeking applicants for the position of Academic Chair  of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) for Georgetown University School of Medicine (GUSOM) and  the Clinical Chair for MedStar Washington Hospital Center (MWHC). 

The Position

The chair of OBGYN serves as both the academic chair of the School of Medicine department and the clinical chief of women’s health for MWHC. The chair oversees all undergraduate and graduate medical education in the department and all basic, translational, and clinical research performed by department  members. The chair also serves as chief of the academic division and chief of the clinical operations in  women’s health at MWHC. The responsibilities include directing the clinical activities and services  provided to obstetric and gynecologic patients at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Clinical sites of  service include but are not limited to the labor and delivery unit, emergency department, operating  room, inpatient and inpatient consultative services.

 

The Department

OBGYN at MWHC provides well visits, preventive screenings, breast health, genetic services,  diagnostic imaging, preconception counseling, fetal assessment, labor and delivery (high-risk/low-risk),  mother/baby, gynecology oncology care, benign gynecology care, maternal-fetal medicine, award-winning NICU care, urogynecology care, education, and more. It performs approximately 3500  deliveries a year.

 

The department has 34 faculty members, 12 advanced practice providers, 40 residents and 11 fellows  in obstetrics and gynecology. It offers fellowships maternal fetal medicine, maternal fetal medicine genetics, urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.  It is the primary teaching site in OBGYN for Georgetown medical students, with third year rotations in  general OBGYN and our subspecialties on urogynecology, minimally invasive gynecology, and  gynecology oncology. We also offer numerous 4th year medical student elective rotations.

In addition to clinical services and education, the department has an active portfolio of clinical, health  equity, and medical education research. Our research spans research through Georgetown University  Medical Center (GUMC) and MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI).

MWHC is the largest not-for-profit Hospital in Washington, D.C. It is a member of MedStar Health, 802  operational beds, and a teaching hospital for Georgetown University School of Medicine.
