Anesthesiologist Requirements
- Education: M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school
- Residency: Completion of an approved residency in anesthesia/anesthesiology
- Board Status: Board Certified in Anesthesiology (or completion of an anesthesiology fellowship, as required)
- Licensure: Active Virginia physician license (or ability/willingness to obtain)
- Experience: Experience with General, Orthopedic, and/or OB anesthesia cases preferred
- Other: ECFMG and FLEX (if applicable)
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in directing and coordinating clinical activities within the anesthesia department
- Provide perioperative anesthesia services for surgical and procedural patients
- Perform pre-anesthesia evaluations, risk stratification, and patient readiness assessments
- Obtain and/or verify informed consent; counsel patients on anesthetic options, benefits, and risks
- Manage induction, maintenance, and emergence from anesthesia across a diverse case mix
- Continuously monitor patient physiologic status and respond to changes in condition
- Perform clinical interventions to ensure patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes
- Collaborate with surgeons, OB teams, nursing, and supervise CRNAs within the care team model

- Provide comprehensive care for high-risk pregnancies (approximately 95% of practice) including perinatology and fetal medicine services
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures: amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, cerclage (preferred), and management of pre-eclampsia, growth restriction, pre-term labor, multiple pregnancy, and congenital/chromosomal abnormalities
- Manage maternal hypertension, thrombophilia, genetic disorders, and other complex obstetric conditions
- Attend vaginal and cesarean births as needed; participate in inpatient and outpatient coverage
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including RN clinic educator, sonographer, genetic counselor, and front office staff
- Utilize onsite ultrasound and GE 10 office equipment for fetal assessment
- Document patient care using EPIC and Viewpoint EMR systems
- Participate in weekday and weekend call coverage and support the practice during the recruitment period
- No supervision of other healthcare providers required
