Are you an OT or ICS engineer who has an interest and aptitude for network design and cyber security?
As a Ride Control Systems Security Engineer you will work within Walt Disney Imagineering’s Ride Studio on multiple ride attraction projects and are responsible for network architecture and cyber security design and implementation activities on new ride projects for installation in all our parks across the globe. You will report to the Ride Controls Systems Engineering Executive
This is a full time role.
What You Will Do:
- Lead Operational Technology (OT)/ Industrial Control Systems (ICS) network architecture and cyber security systems development, design, and implementation for automation and embedded control systems on a wide variety of large-scale, highly complex, and innovative ride systems
- Perform engineering design and analysis for ride system networks, with focus on automation system architecture
- Design and test cyber security solutions and network architectures for ride systems
- Design, model, and analyze data network communication systems
- Research and test new products, technologies, and methodologies and conduct trade-off studies
- Prepare and propose new cyber security and network architecture concepts and standards
- Lead standards and policies development for ride control network and cyber security architectures
- Collaborate with and support project teams on network requirements, implementation, and issues
- Collaborate with attraction development teams to design and deliver ride networks
- Develop and analyze OT network performance requirements for high availability real-time system
- Develop and capture requirements and functional specifications in documents, drawings, and models
- Develop implementation plans and budgets for ride control network systems
- Develop and implement mock-ups and prototypes for proof-of concept efforts
- Develop test requirements and documents and conduct ride network installation/commissioning efforts
Required Qualifications & Skills
- At least 3 years of experience with design, engineering, installation, and commissioning of highly networked automation, process control, and industrial control systems
- At least 3 years of experience in network systems design, installation and configuration
- At least 3 years of experience with Linux and Windows system administration experience
- Demonstrated experience in network design and analysis approaches to ensure and balance network availability, performance, resiliency and security
- Knowledge of wired and short-range wireless communication networks used in high availability industrial and embedded applications
- Solid understanding of communication technologies/protocols: TCP/IP, CAN, Serial, ProfiNET, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, 802.11
- Demonstrated experience in wireless communications for control and monitoring high-availability safety critical systems
- Demonstrated experience evaluating and remediating network and system vulnerabilities
- Demonstrated experience with cyber security technologies including firewalls, endpoint security solutions, VPNs, network security monitoring and detection, and security information and event management (SIEM).
- Solid skills in technical document writing
- Ability to travel and work both domestically and internationally, for varying durations that could be up to 3 months
- Ability to handle multiple complex efforts simultaneously, coordinate team efforts, and manage tasks and priorities
- Ability to maintain knowledge of constantly changing network and cyber security concerns in OT/ICS systems
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Proficient in Rockwell and/or Siemens automation systems architecture and components
- Experienced in fail-safe and safety-related system design and analysis
- Experience with multitasking software platforms and design approaches
- Experience with wired and wireless network design and configuration
- Experience with firewalls, VPNs, network security monitoring, and vulnerability assessment tools
- Knowledge of software configuration management/version control tools
- Cisco, GIAC, CompTIA or other relevant network and cyber security certifications strongly preferred
Education
- As a minimum a Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering, computer science, or related field from an accredited university required; Electrical Engineering preferred

The hiring range for this position in California is $129,300 to $173,300. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. Ride Control Hardware Engineers work within Walt Disney Imagineering’s Ride Studio in a highly collaborative environment on diverse teams. Engineering activities cover all aspects of control system design and implementation, from concept to commissioning, for a wide variety of innovative ride platforms.
The Ride Control Hardware Engineer will report to the Ride Control Systems Engineering Executive.
This is a full time role.
What You Will Do:
- Support programmable, electrical, and electronic hardware scope to design and deliver control systems for complex, innovative ride systems
- Perform engineering design and analysis for ride systems, focusing on electrical control systems
- Develop control system and network architectures
- Design, model, and analyze electrical supply systems
- Research new products, technologies, and methodologies
- Lead a team of ride control engineers and collaborate with other professionals to develop ride control systems
- Develop control equipment requirements and specifications
- Develop and implement proof-of-concept mock-ups and prototypes
- Conduct hazard assessments and failure modes and effects analysis
- Manage vendors, contractors, and consultants developing and implementing ride control systems
- Define and oversee supplier and consultant design and delivery
- Ensure all delivery and performance requirements are satisfied
- Conduct factory acceptance tests and ride system installation
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 10+ Years experience in the Engineering field as related to controlling electromechanical systems
- Experienced in fail-safe and safety-related control system design
- Extensive knowledge of control processors, components, and communication networks
- Highly proficient in industrial control system installation, integration, and commissioning
- Solid understanding of communication protocols: TCP/IP, CAN, serial, ProfiNET, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT
- Extensive knowledge of electrical design standards and codes, including UL508a and NEC
- Familiarity with amusement and automation industry standards, including ASTM F2291
- Expertise in motor and motion control methods and components
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally for 1-week to 3-year durations.

Ride Development Engineering Design Assurance is an all-encompassing role that provides technical oversight and guidance in support of Ride project teams. As Ride engineering experts, they lead the way when it comes to process, standardization, and overall design compliance. Design Assurance Engineers work alongside our project teams to provide experience, knowledge, and expertise to help advance our projects.
This role will work with the Executive Ride Development Engineering.
This is a full-time role.
What You Will Do:
Serve as Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the Ride Engineering design review process to ensure that appropriate engineering/design standards, methods, analyses, and judgment are applied so the engineered products meet the design intent and the business imperatives of safety, reliability, and efficiency.
Review designs related to Ride Engineering products and provide feedback to project teams and functional management regarding the acceptability of those designs.
Interpret and develop standards and codes that will be utilized by the Ride Engineering organization.
Advocate global consistency of solutions for similar problems, and compliance with Disney and external standards.
Partner with Disney leadership and project teams to improve process and standards for the benefit of future engineering efforts.
Contribute to mentoring and talent development
Required Qualifications & Skills
Advanced engineering knowledge (e.g., statics, dynamics, kinematics, stress/strain/fatigue).
Advanced engineering expertise (e.g., machine design, weldments, power train, materials).
Proficiency with engineering tools (e.g., Solid Modeling, Building Information Modeling (BIM), 2D Modeling, FEA, Engineering calculation software e.g. Mathcad, Engineering programming and modeling software e.g. MatLab).
Superior design sensibilities and creative problem solving.
Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
