POSITION SUMMARY:

Utilizing the nursing process, provides high quality direct and indirect patient centered care. Coordinates patient care by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. Communicates, as appropriate, the patient’s clinical condition, responding quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic milieu, with age-specific behavioral management practices. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nursing and have a current Registered Nurse license with the state of Connecticut.

• Must be trained in de-escalation techniques, and receive certification within the orientation period of hire.

• Must receive RQI certification within three (3) months of hire and maintain clinical competency during employment within this role. 

COMPETENCIES:

• Must be able to communicate effectively using the English language in both verbal and writing situations.

• Must possess basic computer skills.

• Must be capable of taking swift and efficient action, including patient restraint when responding to patient emergency codes.

3. Develops and revises individualized treatment plans as indicated by assessment and patient response to treatment. Evaluates overall plan daily for effectiveness. Involves the patient and family in the formulation of goals. Documentation reflects assessments, interventions, and evaluation of effectiveness. Evidenced by supervisor review / observation.

4. Follows the seven (7) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Demonstrates knowledge of medications including psychotropic drugs and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition as evidenced by chart audits and supervisor observation.

5. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and promotes positive patient outcomes as evidenced by supervisor observation.

6. Documents the nursing process and responses to care in a timely manner utilizing the appropriate tools as evidenced by chart audits and supervisor observation.

7. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Utilizes critical thinking skills and sound judgment in priority setting and delegation as evidenced by supervisor observation.

8. Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate as evidenced by chart audits and supervisor observation.

Job Summary

B7E and 7E Step Down is a fast-paced, highly collaborative teaching unit serving medical patients suffering from an acute illness or injury, or experiencing an exacerbation of a chronic condition affecting one or more body systems. The unit has a strong respiratory focus but treats the full range of medical diagnoses.  Step down serves critical care patients with additional interventions including, but not limited to, cardiac drips, insulin drips, Bipap, and chronic vents.  

Our Nurses work in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams, focused on a patient centered care model in a richly diverse work space. Under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the registered nurse utilizes evidence based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, policies and procedures of the hospital and as directed by the medical staff. The Cardiac Catheterization lab at Hartford Hospital is comprised of four suites, two monitoring rooms, two scrub areas, a supply room and a holding area. There are approximately 5,000 diagnostic cardiac caths performed per year and of these, 1,500 become interventions. Hartford Hospital’s operating room provides 24-hour backup in the event that open-heart surgery is needed.

Care of patients undergoing a variety of Catheterization and Interventional procedures with conscious sedation/analgesia administration. Familiarity with IABP, cardiac drugs, and emergency care. Provides holistic, quality and cost-effective nursing care for patients/families and/or others for a patient population within a unit, service or other primary area of practice with an awareness of the episode of care. Our Nurses work in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams, focused on a patient centered care model in a richly diverse work space. • Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology experience preferred.

We are looking for a few exceptional Registered Nurse to join our team on the Medical Observation Unit.

Our Medical Observation Unit at Hartford Hospital is a fast-paced unit devoted to the management of patients requiring 24-48 hours to determine whether a patient can be safely transitioned or admitted to the hospital. Our team of Registered Nurses, Hospitalists, Consultants, PCA’s, administrative professionals and support staff is dedicated specifically to this unit, where we continue to provide safe, personalized, compassionate care to all our patients. This unit’s focus is on the provision of care to patients requiring a period of Observation before a medical decision can be made regarding patient admission versus transition.

Current Connecticut RN License • Graduate of an accredited nursing school • Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR certification required. • Education: ADN/ASN required BSN preferred.
