The Department of Education in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor. This position will focus primarily on the Masters of Art in Teaching (MAT) and the Education Leadership and Policy Studies Doctoral (EdD) programs. The position start date is September 1, 2026.


This distinctive position is designed for an accomplished educational leader who brings significant field experience in K-12 educational administration and a demonstrated commitment to bridging the gap between educational leadership theory and practice. The successful candidate will leverage substantial administrative expertise to prepare the next generation of educational leaders while maintaining vital connections between the university and the regional K-12 educational community.


The appointment level will be made commensurate with experience. This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track position with primary responsibilities for graduate instruction in educational leadership, including advising doctoral students, fostering K-12 partnerships, undergraduate advising, and university service. Initial appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal and promotion.

Position Overview

Duties

The successful candidate will be an engaging and effective educator with a strong commitment to student learning and success, The successful candidate will also have substantial professional experience in educational leadership roles. Responsibilities include:



  • Teaching educational leadership courses at the graduate (EdD and MAT) and undergraduate levels, with particular emphasis on courses such as Transformative Educational Leadership, Classroom Interactions, and related curriculum
  • Mentoring EdD students through all phases of their doctoral program, including dissertation advising, drawing on practical leadership experience
  • Developing and sustaining strategic partnerships with K-12 school districts, administrators, and educational organizations throughout the region
  • Supporting student recruitment and program development initiatives
  • Implementing inclusive and evidence-based teaching and learning approaches informed by field experience to ensure the academic success of a diverse student population
  • Collaborating with faculty to develop curriculum that reflects current leadership practices and challenges in K-12 education
  • Providing academic advising to graduate and undergraduate students
  • Conducting program-level assessment, including data collection and analysis of programmatic data for continuous improvement and accreditation
  • Participating in university service activities, including committee work
  • Serving as liaison between the university and the K-12 educational community

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have:



  • Earned a doctoral degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field. The degree must be conferred by September 1, 2026.
  • A minimum of five years of administrative leadership experience in K-12 education
  • Experience teaching at the college level and/or substantial experience in professional development and adult learning
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and student success
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis

Leadership Experience in K-12 Education:



  • Significant administrative experience as a superintendent, assistant superintendent, principal, assistant principal, or equivalent district-level leadership position
  • Documented success in leading organizational change and improvement initiatives in K-12 settings
  • Experience serving in leadership roles in diverse, urban, or high-needs school districts
  • Track record of building and sustaining collaborative partnerships with multiple stakeholders including school committees, municipalities, community organizations, and families
  • Experience with strategic planning, budget development and oversight, policy implementation, and personnel management in educational settings

SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: Grant -Funded Integral position for a U.S. Department of Education funded Upward Bound Program Trio grant. This position is contingent upon grant funding. Develops implements and coordinates a student assessment system and plan of action to strengthen the students' academic skills, particularly in the areas of weakness identified through the assessment system. Evaluates all students periodically and documents their progress (using individual educational plans, IEP's) and maintains systematic records and produces reports on the program's academic support and instructional activities (both summer and academic year components). The Upward Bound Program works individually and in groups with educationally, economically and/or socially disadvantaged high school students to equip them with the skills and motivation necessary to successfully complete high school and be accepted into a post-secondary institution of higher education.


EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Plans and implements academic tutoring and mentoring to meet the individual needs of the program's students for the academic year component.
  • Trains and supervises six- eight part-time tutor/mentors and one part time Master Tutor
  • Completes required program evaluations and submits them to the Upward Bound Office at the close of each school quarterly marking period.
  • Reports quarterly on programmatic developments and curricula design.
  • Travels between satellite programs at area schools and attends Saturday sessions.
  • Conducts home visits and participates in parental conferences at the request of the Director
  • Acts as liaison between UMass Dartmouth and area high schools.
  • Assists seniors and parents in completing all forms necessary for college admissions and financial aid.

Women's Flag Football Coaching & Program Management



  • Performs all the duties associated with managing and serving as the Head Coach of women's flag football, including but not limited to managing practices and competitions, team recruitment and retention, budget management (e.g., equipment, recruiting, personnel), supervision and mentoring of assistant coaches, mentoring student-athletes, competition schedule development, transportation and meals for away contests, alumni and family engagement

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences has three departments, Adult Nursing, Community Nursing, and Medical Laboratory Science. Nursing has a total of 34 full-time faculty members and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in two Departments-Adult Nursing and Community Nursing. The undergraduate degree program has approximately 550 baccalaureate students enrolled in the prelicensure traditional and accelerated, and RN to BS tracks. The College also offers graduate nursing programs at the MS, DNP, and PhD level, with approximately 110 students enrolled across the graduate programs. Nursing is committed to building scholarship in the areas of chronic illness, nursing education, and global population health. Nursing has a long-standing teaching and research collaboration with the College of Engineering. Nursing also has a growing portfolio of international collaborations and offers unique clinical experiences through these collaborations. Programs are fully accredited by CCNE.

Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Community Nursing Department invites applications for full-time Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor faculty, non-tenure track. The Community Department includes the specialty areas of maternity and women's health; pediatric and family health; community and population health; and mental health nursing. Applicants in these specialty areas or individuals with expertise in global public health, social determinants of health, community-based management of populations with chronic illness; informatics, social justice, health equity and health disparities, community engaged or participatory approaches are encouraged to apply.


Prospective faculty must be committed to rapid pedagogical, academic, and employment changes as driven by environmental conditions. These are on-site, non-tenure positions.


Minimum Qualifications (Required):


The applicant will have an earned clinical doctorate in Nursing (DNP) or research doctorate in Nursing (PhD) or its equivalent with clinical specialization in one of the following areas maternity and women's health; pediatric and family health; community/population health; or informatics and data science; 3 or more years of clinical practice experience; and 1 or more years of teaching experience or its equivalent. Based on qualifications, faculty teach across all program levels. Additional responsibilities include student advisement, professional scholarship, and service.


A RN license in Massachusetts or eligibility for licensure is required.


Doctoral candidates (DNP or PhD) will be considered. However, the applicant's doctoral degree must be conferred by August 1 prior to the September start date. A letter from the applicant's faculty advisor confirming anticipated degree conferral date must be submitted with application materials.


Preferred Qualifications:


The preferred applicant will have 3 or more years of clinical practice experience; and 3 or more years of teaching experience or its equivalent.

Additional Information about Nursing in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences:


The College of Nursing and Health Sciences has three departments, Adult Nursing, Community Nursing, and Medical Laboratory Science. Nursing has a total of 34 full-time faculty members and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in two Departments-Adult Nursing and Community Nursing. The undergraduate degree program has approximately 550 baccalaureate students enrolled in the prelicensure traditional and accelerated, and RN to BS tracks. The College also offers graduate nursing programs at the MS, DNP, and PhD level, with approximately 110 students enrolled across the graduate programs. SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: The ESOL Instructor provides group instruction to adult learners. Instructors are required to create lesson plans and align the curriculum with the Adult Basic Education Curriculum Framework for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The ESOL Instructor must maintain appropriate student records, conduct goal setting activities, facilitate activities to achieve students' goals, and document student outcomes. The ESOL Instructor is expected to provide academic advising to students and assist students with transitioning to next steps in their academic and/or career experience.


The contract period is through June 30, 2026, with possible renewal, September 1, 2026, thru June 30, 2027.


EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Teach one evening class of 6 hrs to WEP students.
  • Select and develop appropriate materials for class use.
  • Create lesson plans and align curriculum with Curriculum Framework for ESOL.
  • Maintain appropriate student records (e.g. attendance, goals, outcomes, assessments, contact notes, exit information).
  • Conduct goal setting activities, facilitate activities designed to achieve students' goals, and document student outcomes.
  • Provide academic advising to adult learners in morning and evening classes related to student progress, goals, and referrals to community resources.
  • Assist students with transitioning to next steps in their job training and post secondary school transitions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
