The Opportunity

As a national and world leader in space, aerospace, and hypersonics, the University of Central Florida (UCF) has established a center of excellence on this topic and is working to strengthen its research and education mission in this area.

As a part of this broad, university-wide strategic plan, the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) invites applicants for multiple 9-month, full-time faculty positions at the rank of assistant professor (tenure-earning), or associate professor (tenured). Candidates with a strong background in hypersonics and space systems are highly encouraged to apply. Technical fields of interest include, but are not limited to:

(1) Additive and Advanced Manufacturing for Hypersonics and Space,

(2) Cryogenic and Supercritical Propellant Systems Design, Analysis and Testing,

(3) Laser Diagnostics and Sensors in Hypersonic and Extreme Environments,

(4) Mathematical Foundations of AI, Uncertainty Quantification, and Reduced Order Modeling for Hypersonics and Space,

or any related areas of research in the broader fields of hypersonics and space.

These positions have an anticipated start date of August 8, 2026. Each of these hires will strengthen UCF and MAE, and may include a combination of joint and/or secondary appointments. Both individual/interdisciplinary infrastructure and startup support will be provided with these new positions. Each successful candidate will work at the intersection of the relevant research areas associated with the aforementioned themes. The corridor has an excellent industrial base that includes software, defense, space, simulation and training, and a world-renowned entertainment industry. Adjacent to UCF is a thriving research park that conducts over $2 billion in funded research, hosting more than 100 high-tech companies and UCF's School of Modeling, Simulation, and Training. In response to this unique locational opportunity, The Center for Advanced Turbomachinery and Energy Research (CATER) was founded to focus on student training and research on turbomachinery and associated energy systems for application in power generation, aviation, and space propulsion. CATER has 9 core faculty members at present, with a staff of 5 research faculty, 15 postdoctoral researchers, and 97 doctoral students. It collectively secured $20.3M of new external funding in FY 24-25 and graduates 13 doctoral students per year on average.

The successful candidates would be part of the UCF HYPERSPACE Center ( ), a Center of Excellence (COE) for Hypersonics and Space Propulsion at the University of Central Florida. The motivation of the center is Speed and Space with the goal of achieving ultra-high-speed flight through our atmosphere, and efficient planetary entry and exit, making space exploration and intercontinental travel as routine as intercity travel is today. The center is a national and world leading center in hypersonic and space propulsion, modeling, aerodynamics, laser diagnostics/sensors, extreme environment materials, and additive/advanced manufacturing with Government and Industry funding. The Opportunity

The University of Central Florida (UCF) has established several interdisciplinary faculty research clusters to strengthen its academic offerings and research mission. In support of this effort, we invite candidates for two (2) tenure-earning assistant professor, tenured associate professor, or tenured professor positions with the university research center on Resilient, Intelligent, and Sustainable Energy Systems (RISES). The positions have an anticipated start date of August 8, 2026.

These are interdisciplinary positions that will be expected to strengthen both the RISES Center and a chosen tenure home department and may include a combination of joint appointments. A strong advantage of this position is the ability of the candidate to choose multiple units for their joint appointment in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the College of Sciences, or both.

All candidates whose research are at the forefronts of energy systems, resilience, and sustainability will be considered. The technical fields of specific research interest for the two positions include but are not limited to:

Position # 1- Sustainable Energy Systems: Non-Combustion (Host Department: Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering):

An ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in pathways for novel processes of electric power generation and storage that do not involve combustion. The selected candidate should be proficient in process design, characterization, and modeling of low carbon electricity generation technologies that ensure access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable power for all. We seek candidates with a strong foundation in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, and energy systems engineering, and a demonstrated research record in non-combustion-based electric power generation and/or energy storage.

Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to:

• Advanced nuclear energy systems, including small modular reactors (SMRs), microreactors, molten salt reactors, liquid metal reactors and high-temperature gas cooled reactors, especially those supporting grid resilience.

A strong record of peer-reviewed publications, mentorship, and engagement with industry, national laboratories, or large-scale research initiatives is highly desirable. Experience with computational tools (e.g., CFD, FEA, system-level modeling) and/or experimental platforms for energy systems is expected.

Position # 2 - Machine Learning and AI for Energy Systems (Host Department: Computer Science and possibly Electrical and Computer Engineering Department):

An ideal candidate would have extensive experience applying modern machine learning techniques to solving complex problems within the energy systems. The candidate should have a strong foundation in deep learning techniques (including convolutional neural networks, recurrent neural networks and multi-head attention models). An experience with specialized foundation models is a plus.

• Energy market and load/generation forecasting, including short- and long-term demand prediction, renewable generation forecasting (solar, wind, hydro) under uncertainty, spatiotemporal modeling for distributed energy systems, energy markets, transfer learning and domain adaptation for data-scarce regions and integration of weather, mobility, and socioeconomic data for predictive modeling.

• Distributed infrastructure system optimization, such as real-time optimization of interdependent infrastructure and energy systems using AI and advanced control methods, hybrid physics-informed and data-driven modeling and control for stability and flexibility.

  
  

• Energy system resiliency research, including detection of faults and cyber-attacks, outage prediction under extreme conditions, resilient cybersecurity solutions, and self-healing algorithms.
  

  
  

Candidates should demonstrate not only extensive experience in deep learning, reinforcement learning, and unsupervised learning but also evidence in interdisciplinary, human-centric, community-based, and data-driven research on energy systems.

Successful candidates will have research impact as reflected in high-quality publications and the ability to build a well-funded and sustainable research program. We are looking for team players who can further enhance our strong campus-wide efforts in energy systems research. The positions will carry ranks commensurate with the candidate's prior experience and record.

Position Overview

As a ServiceNow Sr. Analyst, you will be responsible for maintaining, enhancing, and automating the existing infrastructure and supporting processes for the ServiceNow Platform. Your focus will be on executing and maintaining environments that support both internal and external application solutions, ensuring technologies are available and performing to meet business needs. You will define and implement technology solutions within the ServiceNow platform that align with Securian's business objectives and overall IT strategies. You will design, develop, and deploy applications within the ServiceNow platform. Collaboration with diverse business and technology teams will be essential. You will research trends impacting the ServiceNow technology platform. Finally, you will provide direction, guidance, and thought leadership to ITSM process owners to enhance their competency in leveraging CMDB, incident, problem, asset, change, knowledge, and service catalog management processes, streamlining operations.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Maintain, support, and develop the ServiceNow platform via scripting and system configurations.

• Establish design and capability guidelines for new and existing ServiceNow features to ensure platform integrity.

• Architect and implement integrations with ServiceNow, third-party solutions, and internally developed applications.

• Research, recommend, design, and implement ServiceNow platform services, including workflows, ITOM, ITBM, ITSM, Performance Analytics, CMDB, and ITAM.

• Train internal associates and administrators in the use and configuration of ServiceNow applications.

• Own your code from design to delivery, including test automation and detailed documentation.

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve ServiceNow system issues or operational support tickets.

• Provide rotational after-hours on-call support for ServiceNow production issues.

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of engineering experience with the ServiceNow technology platform or a comparable Service Management technology platform.

• Proficient in using ServiceNow or equivalent Service Management tools for analysis, design, development, and integration with other applications, including 3rd party software.

• Skilled in configuring ServiceNow Discovery and Orchestration.

• Project management and leadership skills with a proven ability to deliver outcomes on complex service management initiatives and transformations.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information and ideas at all business levels.

• Proven ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment.

• Demonstrated ability to assess customer needs, creatively approach solutions, and influence appropriate courses of action.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience deploying, implementing, administering, configuring, and/or developing solutions on the ServiceNow technology platform.

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience, education, and certification.

• Broad technical experience that includes integrations and infrastructure build and support.

• ServiceNow Administrator certification, with additional development certifications/experience (e.g., Advanced System Administration, Certified Application Developer, Application Creation).

• Experience and understanding of web technologies, SaaS solutions, and development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).

• Experience with application integrations using technologies such as SOAP or REST Web Services, JDBC/ODBC, and flat files.

• Experience with ServiceNow reports, dashboards, and Performance Analytics.

• Knowledge of Information Protection strategies (DR, encryption).

• Understanding of data management and concepts such as data normalization, record retention, and archiving.

• ITIL certification V3/V4.

• Project management and leadership skills (agile preferred) with proven ability to deliver outcomes on complex service management initiatives and transformations.
