- Lead and oversee the welding department operations for shipbuilding projects, including new vessel construction and repair work.
- Supervise, train, evaluate, and schedule welders and welding staff to ensure productivity and quality standards are met.
- Monitor production schedules, staffing levels, and workflow to ensure deadlines and budget targets are achieved.
- Inspect fit-ups, tank shells, and welded structures to ensure quality and compliance with specifications.
- Coordinate with production management, QC teams, and inspection authorities to maintain welding standards and safety protocols.
- Manage equipment, materials, and maintenance to ensure continuous welding operations.
- Review engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding procedures to plan and execute welding work effectively.
- Operate and oversee various welding processes including GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, plasma arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
- Ensure safe welding practices and OSHA-compliant work environments across the department.
- Support continuous improvement in welding methods, equipment efficiency, and product quality.
- Mandatory shipbuilding industry experience with strong exposure to vessel construction or marine fabrication.
- 5+ years of hands-on welding experience across steel and ideally aluminum materials.
- 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience managing welding teams.
- Experience with multiple welding processes (GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SMAW, etc.).
- Ability to read blueprints, weld schedules, and engineering drawings.
- Experience working with QC inspections and regulatory authorities.
- AWS or ABS Welding Certification required.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Basic Microsoft Office skills for documentation and reporting.
- Experience in heavy manufacturing, marine fabrication, or shipyard environments strongly preferred.
