Owensboro Health is a nonprofit health system with a mission to heal the sick and to improve the health of the communities it serves in Kentucky and Indiana. Our 477-bed flagship hospital, opened in 2013 after a 5-year design and construction process, replacing the previous hospital that began around 1938. Job Title: Maintenance / Mechanical Plant Engineer
Location: Owensboro, KY
The Maintenance Plant Engineer position is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and tracking of projects at the facility to ensure the projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Lead preventive/predictive maintenance activities to ensure safe and reliable equipment operation in the most cost-effective manner.
- Support various plant operations and maintenance groups with engineering-based troubleshooting, problem analysis, and resolution.
- Maintain and support continuous improvement of maintenance activities for unit and equipment outages.
- Complete reports on unit performance and outages as required. Must be able to conduct work activities regarding environmental rules and regulations and regularly review assignments to assure optimum efficiency.
- Develop, negotiate, and implement contracts with contractors, vendors, engineering firms, and others as required to support plant operations and maintenance activities.
Key Must Have’s:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or an alternate combination of education and experience, which results in equivalent job knowledge.
- Thorough knowledge of utility power generation with thorough knowledge of plant maintenance procedures, project management, and plant performance.
- Must be able to independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria using judgment in identifying and implementing enhancements, adaptations, and modifications to existing and/or new equipment in a power plant environment.
- Requires an elevated level of judgment, analytic ability, and creativity, such as investigating moderately complex problems or situations, analyzing information, and recommending solutions.

Job Title : Nuclear Engineer (Naval Reactors Engineer) Category / Component : Officer • Active Overview Design, regulate, and oversee the Navy's nuclear propulsion program, including reactor design, fleet operations, and eventual defueling and decommissioning of nuclear powered ships and submarines from Naval Reactors Headquarters and associated Department of Energy laboratories and shipyards.
Key Responsibilities Provide technical direction in areas such as reactor and fluid systems design, reactor physics, materials development, component design for steam generators, pumps, and valves, instrumentation and control for reactor and propulsion plants, testing and quality control, radiation shielding, and chemistry and radiological controls; review designs and analyses from laboratories, shipyards, and industry partners; coordinate with fleet units to ensure safe and reliable nuclear plant operation.
What to Expect Assume significant technical responsibility early in your career as part of a lean headquarters staff; work primarily in an analytical and oversight role rather than operating plants at sea; balance long term engineering projects with time sensitive fleet and shipyard issues; frequent coordination with senior civilian engineers, naval officers, and technical teams; high expectations for attention to detail, judgment, and written and oral communication.

Pathways, Training & Advancement Officer commissioning through programs such as Officer Candidate School or the Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate program followed by a structured technical qualification program at Naval Reactors; rotational exposure to laboratories, prototypes, shipyards, and fleet support issues; progressive responsibility leading projects and becoming a subject matter expert, with opportunities for professional military education and advanced graduate study in technical fields.
Entry through the Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate program for qualified college students and recent graduates, or selection via Officer Candidate School for those who already hold qualifying degrees; all applicants must meet Nuclear Propulsion Program academic and technical screening standards in addition to general officer commissioning requirements.
