The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production support of a wide breadth of air, land, sea, and space systems.

The USS department is looking for a full-time Mechanical Engineer II, located in Portsmouth, RI.

What You Will Do:
Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.

Collaborate across multiple disciplines/functions (i.e. structural/thermal analyses and electrical engineering) to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, team environment.

Validate design fit and functionality by rapid prototyping and/or simulation

Support the factory and suppliers with product integration

Participate in design peer reviews, resolving action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.

Occasional CONUS travel to customer sites or suppliers is generally required.

International and longer duration travel assignments are available but optional

Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a Bachelors Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design, documentation and fabrication.

The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:
Experience in the specification, design, development, production and testing of undersea systems and electronics packaging. Knowledge of design for long term submergence, sealing, and corrosion resistance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-the-floor quality engineering support to manufacturing operations for combination products.
  • Perform and document line clearances prior to batch start, product changeovers, and as required throughout production.
  • Ensure labeling control requirements are met.
  • Conduct incoming inspection of components and materials (visual, dimensional, and functional tests as applicable).
  • Perform batch record reviews (BRR) for completeness, accuracy, and GMP compliance.
  • Ensure that all work adheres to applicable cGMP, ISO, and FDA regulatory requirements for combination products.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related technical field — or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3-5 years prior experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (pharma, medical device, or combination products preferred).
  • Basic understanding of quality systems, cGMP, and data integrity principles.
  • Experience with combination product manufacturing, device assembly lines and/or cleanroom experience.
  • Knowledge of FDA 21 CFR Part 4, 210, 211 and 820, ISO 13485, or similar regulatory standards.

Job Details

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the design and permitting of construction plans for site layout, grading, drainage, erosion control, stormwater treatment and conveyance, water and sewer, roadway, pump station and force main design. This individual will also provide technical and design services in support of civil engineering projects reporting directly to their project manager. Applicant must be able to communicate and coordinate technical evaluations and designs, produce reports in technical writing format, and correspond with other team members to complete work in a timely and efficient manner.
