In the clinical resource unit, our dedicated nursing staff, nurse leaders, interdisciplinary team members, and physician partners practice on providing specialized medical and nursing care to various inpatient units including Medical- Oncology, Surgical -Orthopedic, Cardiovascular care unit, Progressive Care unit, Mental health unit, and Acute Rehab. Our highly-trained staff utilizes the most current technology and equipment. Medical diagnoses include but are not limited to coronary artery disease, angina, myocardial ischemia, myocardial infarction, dysrhythmia, syncope, congestive heart failure, strokes, cancer, cellulitis, post surgicals, and chest pain. Fast-paced, exciting, and always evolving.

Responsibilities

Performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards and that is based on patient and family needs. Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Overview

Our team approach supports new and experienced nurses. We guide and encourage patients before, during and after their course of treatment. We triage our patients over the phone and in person. We work closely with radiation and surgical oncology, nutrition, and palliative medicine to coordinate care for our patients. We find solutions to patient problems by working closely with our Oncologists. The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution. The Lactation Consultant serves as the Hospital's expert resource on human lactation. Facilitates the development and maintenance of skills necessary to insure optimal care of the breastfeeding dyad. Responsibilities

Serves as a consultant when difficulties with lactation are beyond the knowledge and/or training of the health care provider. Consults, develops and implements lactation plans of care. • Number of beds on unit: 18
• Patient population (age, diagnosis, specifics about unit): 18 years and old. Cardiac arrhythmia, Chest pain, CHF, Pacemakers, Ablations, Heart attacks (MI), and Cardiac interventions.
• Nurse to Patient ratio: 1:4-5
• Department culture and resources: CVCU is a fast paced, high patient turnover unit. We admit and d/c multiple patients each day. The department culture is focused on teamwork, ensuring that patients' needs are met working closely with interdisciplinary partners. Resources: Charge nurse, Heart failure nurse, cardiac rehab, case manager/social work, respiratory and pharmacy.
• Frequent nursing skills/equipment used: Nursing skills: Assessment, IV, managing cardiac drips, post procedure care, discharge teaching and completing admissions. Equipment: IV pumps, SCD machines, Bedside monitors, cardiac monitoring, oxygen, ambulation equipment, lift equipment.
