Blue Cypress is seeking a Utility Management Services (UMS) Director to oversee our company’s utility management consulting services group. This position will work closely with our existing UMS staff in Atlanta, Seattle, and Cincinnati, seeking to expand work with current clients, win work with new clients, expand our services, and facilitate career development of staff. As an integral part of our business development and technical team, the UMS Director will oversee UMS staff, client projects, develop and maintain client relationships, and oversee business development activities. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 20 years of increasing responsibility and experience primarily as a utility management and/or engineering consultant at an A&E firm; public sector experience is also valued. This job posting is for Atlanta, but we would consider a candidate in the Seattle area as well. Responsibilities include:
- Provide specialized management consulting services in areas that may include: strategic planning, infrastructure management/asset management, operational optimization/lean processes, regulatory support, maintenance management, capital planning/forecasting, system planning, technology selection/on-boarding, data management/analytics/visualization, etc. More detailed related duties may include:
- Plan, design, and implement operations and maintenance optimization and capital planning and renewal strategies for water, wastewater, and/or stormwater for utilities.
- Design and oversee analyses on large infrastructure datasets, such as GIS, computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), customer information systems, condition assessment/inspection databases, capacity assessment/hydraulic modeling, etc.
- Perform services on-site as necessary to support client engagement
- Ensure project managers in the department successfully deliver projects on time and on budget by staying informed on projects, monitoring progress, and providing support to mitigate risk.
- Perform quality control and quality assurance reviews of deliverables in accordance with Blue Cypress policy, including project management reviews

Minimum Qualifications

- Lead cross-functional design reviews with electrical, thermal, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure full system integration and compliance with product specifications and applicable plumbing and hydronic codes.
- Optimize rack manifold design and manufacturing processes, including machining, welding, surface finishing, connection interfaces, venting and draining strategies, and flow path optimization to enhance performance and manufacturability.
- Drive continuous improvement in manufacturing assembly methods and tooling in collaboration with production teams and equipment vendors to improve quality, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Lead root cause investigations for complex mechanical failures identified during validation or field deployment and implement corrective design improvements.
- Provide technical leadership in vendor qualification and management for mechanical components and liquid cooling subsystems.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks impacting performance, schedule, or cost, and contribute to R&D initiatives advancing liquid cooling technologies and system innovation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
Experience:
- 8 years' experience in mechanical design and integration of mission-critical systems.
- Proven track record of successful system designs and implementations in a relevant industry
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, integration strategy, and system coordination
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to Energy Storage Systems and Data Center Infrastructure is preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
