Machine Shop Supervisor – CNC Operations, Programming & Advanced Manufacturing

Their U.S. machining and automation operations support the production of specialized components used in complex modules, equipment platforms, and fully integrated production systems.

This position plays a critical role in shaping the machine shop of the future, including leading day‑to‑day machining activities, guiding CNC operators, refining programming strategies, and helping establish a new machining facility that will integrate directly with advanced automation and robotic workflows.

Role Overview

As the Machine Shop Supervisor, you will be the primary leader responsible for CNC machining operations that support sophisticated automated manufacturing systems. You will guide personnel, oversee production schedules, develop CNC programs, and ensure best‑in‑class machining practices across multi‑axis equipment and robotic machine‑tending environments.

You will also be heavily involved in planning and setting up the machine shop during an upcoming facility relocation, including equipment layout, workflow optimization, and integrating machining activities with automated equipment and digital manufacturing technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, train, and mentor CNC machinists to meet production goals and uphold quality and safety standards.
• Oversee daily machining operations, including scheduling, prioritizing workloads, and coordinating with automated production lines and supporting departments.
• Create, refine, and optimize CNC programs for complex components used in robotic assemblies, tooling packages, motion‑control systems, and custom automated machinery.
• Use CAM programming tools (Mastercam, Fusion 360, or equivalent) to develop efficient toolpaths, reduce cycle times, and ensure compatibility with automated material-handling systems.
• Support and troubleshoot multi-axis machining centers, robotic tending cells, and automation-assisted machining processes; experience with Okuma equipment is highly beneficial.
• Drive the setup and organization of the new machine shop facility—including equipment placement, workflow development, process layout, and integration with automation and digital systems.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, automation, and maintenance teams to address machining issues, improve system performance, and enhance uptime and reliability.
• Interpret detailed engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and automation-related part specifications to ensure accurate and repeatable production results.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safety‑focused work environment aligned with modern automated manufacturing expectations.
• Participate in continuous-improvement initiatives involving automation enhancements, process optimization, tooling improvements, and smart‑manufacturing strategies.

Required Qualifications

• Prior experience in setting up a machine shop or similar environment (industrial automation or advanced-manufacturing environment)
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Machine Tool Technology, Computer Integrated Machining, or a closely related manufacturing discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in CNC machining, electrical/mechanical technical support, or similar roles in an advanced-manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated background in CNC machining, programming, and supervising machining teams within high‑precision or automation-driven production settings.
• Strong understanding of multi‑axis machining, robotic machine‑tending concepts, and automated part-handling systems.
• Proficiency with CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar platforms.
• Working knowledge of advanced manufacturing technologies (robotics, PLC-controlled equipment, vision systems, digital factory tools).
• Solid foundation in machining fundamentals, tooling selection, fixturing, and precision manufacturing practices.
• Strong leadership, communication, and troubleshooting skills with the ability to support both machining personnel and automated systems.

Work Environment & Location

• Full‑time, onsite position based in the Raleigh/Morrisville area.
• Role requires hands‑on presence on the shop floor; remote or hybrid schedules are not available.

The Role

We are seeking a high-ownership manufacturing leader with a strong chemical engineering or process engineering background who thrives in complex, fast-growing environments and enjoys building systems that support scale.

This role exists to build and lead Carpe’s contract manufacturing and process engineering capability as the company rapidly expands production across multiple product categories and retail partners.

While this role carries meaningful strategic responsibility, it is also deeply operational and hands-on. You will work directly with contract manufacturers to strengthen processes, improve manufacturing performance, and ensure Carpe products are produced consistently and reliably at scale.

This is a build-and-own role, not a delegation role. You will engage directly with the technical teams at contract manufacturing partners, travel up to 50% as needed, and work hands-on to improve processes, troubleshoot manufacturing challenges, and scale production.

You will partner closely with Product Development, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain to translate product innovation into robust, scalable manufacturing processes.

Success in this role requires the ability to operate at multiple levels simultaneously—driving long-term manufacturing strategy while also working directly with manufacturing partners to solve technical challenges and strengthen operational performance.

What You’ll Do

Contract Manufacturing Leadership

●     Own and manage Carpe’s network of contract manufacturing partners

●     Improve process robustness and repeatability across manufacturing partners

Technology Transfer & Product Scale-Up

●     Lead the technical transfer of new products from development into commercial manufacturing

Cross-Functional Collaboration

●     Partner closely with Product Development to ensure manufacturing processes support product performance requirements

●     Work with supply chain and planning teams to support production scheduling and inventory needs

●     Provide manufacturing insight during product development and innovation planning

Who You Are

●     Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline

●     10–15+ years of experience in manufacturing, process engineering, or operations leadership within consumer packaged goods, personal care, or related industries

●     Experience managing contract manufacturing networks and external production partners

●     Strong technical background in manufacturing processes and scale-up

●     Experience working with highly structured emulsions or shear-sensitive formulations

●     Demonstrated ability to build systems, processes, and infrastructure in growing organizations

●     Comfortable operating in fast-moving environments where both strategy and hands-on execution are required

●     Willing and able to travel a lot (and last minute)

●     Strong engineering instincts and problem-solving ability

●     Ability to work directly with manufacturing partners to improve processes and solve technical challenges

About Our Client

The Opportunity

This is a highly impactful supply planning leadership role for someone who enjoys both running the planning engine and fixing what’s not working. The Supply Chain Manager will own finished goods (FG) and FF&P supply planning, ensuring demand signals, constraints, and inventory policies translate into executable, accurate plans. This person will partner closely with regional and global stakeholders, drive continuous improvement, and play a key role in scenario planning and decision support.

• Key ResponsibilitiesLead FG and FF&P supply planning, ensuring alignment with demand priorities, business rules, and operational constraints
• Own dependent requirements planning from FG to FF&P, generating netted AI demand signals and completing constrained supply plans
• Execute MRP with defined freeze periods to generate accurate planned orders; own demand netting within the supply region
• Manage MRP exception handling, validating and resolving issues sequentially and ensuring completeness and accuracy of MRP outputs
• Own FG and bulk inventory planning in partnership with Inventory Management, including lead times, safety stock, and inventory targets
• Implement and refine safety stock policies to balance service levels and working capital
• Prepare supply plans by reviewing planning data, netting policies, BoMs, capacity alignment, and data accuracy (including data cleaning and validation)
• Support the SIOP process by preparing inputs for regional supply reviews and incorporating allocation decisions and global constraints
• Perform scenario modeling to evaluate trade-offs, assess risks, and support data-driven decision-making
• Coordinate execution feasibility across key stakeholders, including Tollers, Material Planners, AI Planners, and Schedulers
• Validate intercompany transfer orders generated by MRP and ensure alignment with supply priorities and stock availability
• Proactively communicate supply risks and escalate critical shortages when resolution paths are not available
• Continuously improve planning processes, tools, and standards by challenging inefficiencies and implementing best practices

• What We’re Looking For5–10 years of experience in supply planning within a complex manufacturing or distribution environment
• CPIM certification strongly preferred
• Deep expertise in MRP and dependent requirements planning, including demand netting and exception management
• Strong experience working within ERP and advanced planning systems, with the ability to interpret outputs and optimize planning parameters
• Proven ability to manage cross-functional stakeholders and operate effectively in matrixed organizations
