Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior Software Systems Engineer to join our team in one of the listed locations.

We are seeking Systems Engineers with Demonstrated ability to apply systems engineering principles in modern software environments, with strong understanding of DevSecOps pipelines, CI/CD practices, and cloud-native architectures. Candidates should be comfortable working across disciplines to integrate hardware, software, and mission systems in secure environments, collaborating closely with developers and test engineers to validate end-to-end functionality. Experience with containerized applications, automated build and test processes, and infrastructure as code is essential to ensuring system performance, security, and mission assurance. The integration and test team will lead system-level integration, verification, and acceptance test activities to ensure software systems meet performance, reliability, and interoperability requirements in an operational environment.

Position Responsibilities

• Review, develop, document, and maintain system requirements and traceability across the lifecycle.
• Define test strategies, plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria for component, integration, and system-level testing.
• Design and execute verification & validation activities (functional, interface, performance, reliability, regression).
• Analyze test results, perform root cause analyses, and recommend corrective actions.
• Collaborate across engineering disciplines, working closely with software developers, system architects, and test engineers to validate end-to-end functionality and mission effectiveness.
• Lead integration of hardware, software, and mission systems in secure DoD environments, ensuring interoperability, performance, and mission assurance.
• Apply modern DevSecOps practices—including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, containerized deployments, and infrastructure as code—to streamline integration and test activities.
• Stand up, configure, and maintain secure test environments leveraging cloud-native and virtualized resources (e.g., AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or on-premise equivalents).
• Use model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and requirements management tools to support design, analysis, and traceability.
• Contribute to risk, issue, and opportunity management; assess and report technical readiness and critical path impacts.
• Drive continuous improvement of integration and test processes, incorporating automation, metrics, and lessons learned to increase efficiency and reliability.
• Document integration results and test findings for design reviews, readiness assessments, and formal customer deliverables.
• Mentor junior engineers; at higher levels, provide technical leadership across projects and broader mentoring responsibilities.

Travel may be required up to 20% of the time; Domestically depending on business needs.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
• 14+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience

• Strong systems thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Practical experience with requirements decomposition, requirements tracing and configuration management.
• Experience writing test plans and procedures and executing system-level integration and verification.
• Familiar with standard engineering tools such as requirements management (DOORS or similar), MBSE (MSOSA/Cameo or similar), test management, and common collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence, Git).
• Proficient with one or more scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, Bash, Matlab) for test automation and data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

• Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Systems Engineering or related field.
• Experience with mission systems, avionics, command & control architectures, embedded systems, sensor systems, or related defense/space programs.
• Prior work on software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, flight test, or distributed system integration.
• Knowledge of certification and compliance frameworks relevant to the program (FAA, DoD, NASA, etc.).
• Experience with cloud, container, and CI/CD test infrastructure (Docker/Kubernetes, AWS).
• Experience with performance and reliability testing, and statistical test methods (DOE).

Boeing Test & Evaluation (BT&E) generates enormous volumes of data, but data alone does not create insight. We are building a Digital Engineering capability focused on transforming test intent into reusable knowledge through intuitive applications, scalable systems, and thoughtful architecture.

As a Digital Engineer – Full Stack & Systems Architecture, you will sit at the intersection of engineering workflows, software systems, and cloud platforms. This is not a traditional backend or data‑engineering role. You will design end‑to‑end solutions, working from initial understanding of engineer needs, to shaping application architecture, to implementing full‑stack solutions that integrate data, automation, and cloud services. Position Responsibilities:

Digital Product & Application Development

• Design and develop full stack applications that improve test and evaluation workflows, decision making, and engineering productivity

• Translate ambiguous engineering problems into clear digital solutions, balancing usability, performance, and scalability

• Develop front end and backend services using modern frameworks (e.g., React, Node.js, Python, .NET)

• Design and implement APIs and service interfaces that enable integration across test systems, analytics platforms, and enterprise tools

Systems Architecture & Cloud Engineering

• Architect end to end systems spanning applications, data services, and cloud infrastructure

• Evaluate and select cloud services across AWS and Azure based on cost, usability, scalability, and long term maintainability

• Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM, or Bicep to support repeatable, secure deployments

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

• 5+ years of experience developing full stack applications with modern frameworks

• Strong systems thinking skills with experience designing end to end software solutions

The ability to maintain and develop plans/schedules and to monitor and report schedule performance is required. Good oral and written communications are essential to success in this position. This role will work closely with the software development team, the software test team, other product owners, and the Chief Engineer on the team. This position will also require occasional domestic and international travel as required to ensure successful implementation of the system at customer sites.

Position Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain product roadmaps and system lifecycle plans.
• Develop, document, and verify requirements.
• Develop project schedules and track performance.
• Develop and organize work items for the software team.
• Be responsible for the integration of the components of the GVHMS system to successfully meet customer requirements.
• Coordinate with the customer on a regular basis.
• Document team plans and status, develop meeting agendas and presentations.
• Analyze process compliance and actively work on improvements.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
• 3+ years of experience in systems engineering (requirements definition, allocation, verification, architecture design and trade design)
• 3+ years' experience building stakeholder and customer relationships
• 3+ years of experience in leading projects or teams

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

• Agile development experience
• Excellent communication skills and ability to lead by influence
• Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
• Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM)

Travel: 10%. Must have the ability to travel domestically or internationally.
