- Long Beach VAMC VA Long Beach Healthcare System (VALBHS) is one of the most diversified health care systems in VA, and it includes Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center located in Long Beach, California, and five Community-Based Outpatient Clinics located in Anaheim, Laguna Hills, Santa Ana, Santa Fe Springs, and Villages at Cabrillo in Long Beach.
VLBHS provides comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, and extended care programs.
It employs more than 2,200 full-time employees and is the health care provider of choice for more than 50,000 Veterans.
Active in both research and education, partnering with universities and education centers across Southern California, it trains a new generation of health care leaders.
5901 East Seventh Street Long Beach, CA Responsibilities: Emergency physicians shall provide immediate medical evaluation, examination, diagnosis, treatment, and/or referral of patients who present for care in the ED "Present for care" includes patients referred to the Emergency Department by other medical providers in the VA Healthcare Facility system (such as outpatient clinics, outlying clinics, ED Fast track, inpatient, etc.).
The ED physician shall provide professional advice to other VA providers with regard to professional management of patients being treated and/or hospitalized.
The Contractor physician shall be a resource for contract providers and manage patients in the fast track portion of the Emergency Department as well.
The Contractor physician care shall cover the range of emergency room care typically provided in an urban civilian practice of similar size.
The following list is an example of the types of cases, but is not all-inclusive: Major trauma, including fractures of multiple extremities, stab wounds, open wounds of the chest and abdomen, head trauma, suspected spine injuries, lacerations, amputations; Major medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction, respiratory failure, shock; Obstetrical emergencies such as deliveries of single or multiple births, acute pregnancy complications, vaginal bleeding; Our Labor and Delivery Unit is on Long Term Divert.
When possible, we have an OB provider (CNM, FP/OB) on resource call.
Pediatric emergencies, including neonatal resuscitations; Acute psychiatric problems, including suicide attempts; Lower-acuity complaints including viral illnesses, other infections, minor orthopedic problems, minor trauma, alcohol abuse (i.e., "urgent care" patients);.
Other miscellaneous medical problems both acute and chronic.
Requirements: Unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S.
State or Territory ABEM-Certification preferred, but other Board Certifications are acceptable with no less than 2 years of full-time ER experience in a high volume ED (Other qualifying certifications: Internal medicine, Family practice, Internal medicine/pediatrics, general surgery.) Must be an M.D.
or D.O.
and be capable of treating patients of all ages.

Location: 5901 E 7th Street, Long Beach, CA 90822 Requirements (duties include, but are not limited to) Hospitalist / Nocturnist(s) shall provide all aspects of acute Internal Medicine hospital inpatient care for patients hospitalized on the general Medical wards, Step Down Unit, SCI/CLC unit.
The medical coverage shall consist of, but is not limited to: Performing Admitting History and Physical Examinations in a timely fashion in accordance with VALBHS policies.
Co-managing/collaborating in the management of inpatients hospitalized on other medicine inpatient services.
Writing prescriptions for medications and other items per formulary.
Writing prescriptions for diets and nutritional items.
Discharging a patient from inpatient care once it is determined that such care is no longer required.
Performing patient assessment and documentation as needed for patient care.
Ordering diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests and x-rays.
Initiating and expediting requests for consultation and scheduling special tests and studies.
Providing education and counseling to patients and families for preventative care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatment and drugs.
May coordinate and supervise the scope of practice of assigned mid-level and appropriate allied health practitioner staff to ensure their rights and practice goals are achieved and integrated expeditiously to benefit patient care, if applicable.
Additionally, Hospitalist / Nocturnist shall: Follow all VALBHS inpatient policies and procedures.
Assume responsibility for compliance with TJC and other departmental and facility-wide performance improvement reviews and monitors.
Effectively communicate with Veteran patients, their families, care providers and other interested parties regarding Veterans' condition, including death, suicides, aftercare, and transfer to/from other medical facilities.
Complete required VANSHS mandatory training modules in a timely fashion.
Must maintain active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Must maintain active American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Qualifications Must have graduated from an accredited Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) program to include an Internal Medicine residency program.
Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM).
Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in one of the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or U.S.
Virgin Islands.
Possess and maintain at all times a current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
