The Clinical Nurse Educator serves as a clinical expert, educator, and mentor for health system. This role partners with clinical leadership and frontline staff to support evidence-based practice, education, and professional development. The Clinical Nurse Educator functions in a team-based environment to strengthen clinical practice, promote quality outcomes, and support ongoing staff competency and growth.

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides comprehensive family health care to a population that has multiple health care needs in the University Health network of community-based ambulatory care centers.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Must have completed training in an ACGME approved and accredited residency program. Completion of residency program from the time of graduation from medical school in excess of the traditional time period for the practice specialty must be fully explained in writing. All incumbents will be expected to be board certified in their specialty or be eligible for board certification. Must obtain board certification in accordance with Medical-Dental Staff bylaws.

LICENSURE

Must possess current license to practice medicine in the State of Texas. Must maintain current AHA BLS or higher in accordance with Medical-Dental Staff bylaws. Providers practicing in acute care environment must obtain AHA ACLS certification or advanced specialty equivalent as defined by the UMA Credentials Committee within 90 days of hire. Must maintain DEA number. Must follow rules/regulations as set forth by the Texas Medical Board Medical Practice Act.

Must possess a current license to practice Vocational Nursing in the State of Texas. Must have a current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider or AHA BLS Instructor Provider card.

Maintains management responsibility and accountability for clinical practice of nursing for a nursing unit. Promotes the University Health System Customer Relation’s policy.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and current registration with the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas is required (Magnet). Master of Science Degree in Nursing with an Administration component is preferred. Five years experience in nursing with at least two years in a supervisor or managerial position is required. Experience in a 300+ bed hospital preferred.
