The department of East Asian Languages & Cultures at the University of California, Berkeley, invites application for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach courses in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Tibetan, and general East Asian cultures (literature, thought, religion, cultural history, etc.) should the need arise during Fall 2025, Spring and Summer 2026.

Position description

The general duties and responsibilities include:
- Design and develop online modules
- Teach a short course
- Participate in course and program evaluation
- Teach at institute bootcamps
- Contribute to curriculum development of modules, courses, and/or certificate programs for non-degree students

The Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified health science clinical faculty members at the Clinical Instructor, Assistant, Associate, or Full Clinical Professor level to teach in the School of Optometry and Vision Science and/or Berkeley Optometry partner off-campus clinics, should an opening arise. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department. The pool will remain in place for one calendar year; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply.
The responsibilities of the health science clinical faculty members include teaching optometric student clinicians in the patient care environment, performing direct patient care when student clinicians are unavailable both on or off the UC Berkeley campus, and/or teaching optometric student clinicians the basics of eye examinations sequence in the pre-clinical environment. They may also perform service to the school and community through education or various outreach programs on or off the UC Berkeley campus.
Appointees will be eligible for advancement through the ranks of the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series, based on performance in teaching, professional activity, scholarly and creative activity, and service.
The Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science has excellent clinical facilities and a large, diverse patient population. Over 70,000 patient visits are seen annually within our on campus clinic. About 65 optometry students are graduated annually. The College Writing Programs at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach summer courses in the College Writing Programs should openings arise. The number of positions varies from summer to summer, depending on the department's needs. All positions are handled on a by-agreement basis.
Programs include:
English Language and Culture: Our English for Academic and Specific Purposes courses are aimed at high-beginning through advanced-level students who want to enhance their English language skills, improve job performance, or undertake university work. Courses are offered both online and in person and are grounded in theme-based and project-based learning.
Creative Writing: Courses include short fiction and drama, nonfiction, poetry, and performance and reading. Most courses are 3-week workshops, although a few are in a longer 6-week format. They are offered both online and in person. A record of publication in creative writing is preferred for creative writing teaching candidates.
Public Speaking: We offer introductory, advanced, and online public speaking courses for lower-division students. All are in a 6-week format.
Reading and Writing in the Disciplines: Courses focusing on education; writing in the biological sciences, law, and business; and other disciplines are offered both online and in person.
Reading & Composition (Berkeley students): We offer online sections of required courses for Berkeley undergraduates, who receive priority enrollment. Instructors must be experienced in teaching composition. Course lengths vary from 8 to 10 weeks.
Job duties:
Successful applicants will teach one or more summer courses. Applicants will be responsible for all classes, including crafting syllabi, teaching in a classroom environment, and grading student work. Instructors will also be required to attend faculty meetings.

These courses are taught experientially, using extensive simulation, video, and other "learning by doing" pedagogies.

In searches when letters of reference are required all letters will be treated as confidential per University of California policy and California state law. Please refer potential referees, including when letters are provided via a third party (i.e., dossier service or career center), to the UC Berkeley statement of confidentiality prior to submitting their letter.
