The CHRISTUS Spohn South Labor and Delivery, Antepartum and Obstetrical Emergency Departments are all staffed by one group of associates that are crossed trained in all three areas. Registered Nurses, OB Surgical Technicians, Certified Nurse Aides and Unit Secretaries make up our wonderful team of associates. In addition, we have 24-hour CRNA coverage for maternity anesthesia and our OBED is staffed within-house OB Hospitalist to accept transfers, care for patients and handle emergencies 24 hours a day. We average about 220 deliveries per month. We are capable of providing care for our patients in need of Non-stress test, Amniocentesis, Induction of Labor, Management of Postpartum complications such as hemorrhage or elevated blood pressure, and have the capability to begin an emergency section within 30 minutes of decision time and recognized as a Texas Ten Step for Breastfeeding. CVICU is an8-bedICUunit. The staff are highly specialized in cardiovascular services such as post-open heart, thoracotomy, and vascular services. The RNs are tenured and work very closely with our cardiovascular surgeons and are highly trained in the care of the patients. We provide the most comprehensive range of surgical and medical services for cardiac care in South Texas. Our facility houses: 6 cardiac catheterization labs, 3 cardiovascular surgery suites, Cardiac rehabilitation unit, and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.

8NT is a 36-bed unit with a focus on Neuro Telemetry and Neuro Surgical Services. The primary patient population is composed of stroke, brain, and spinal conditions that range from; seizures, brain aneurysm, laminectomy, cervical fusion, stable craniotomy mechanical thrombectomy after 24 hours of ICU recovery. We have a strong working relationship with our neurosurgeons and neurologists who provide education and guidance to help enhance our nursing care. We pride ourselves on our TJC Comprehensive Level 1 Stroke Certification. We strive to maintain a culture of teamwork and quality. Coronary Medical ICU is a 24-bed multidisciplinary unit that provides care to a wide range of patients with serious medical, cardiac, and cardiac surgical disorders or complications requiring the highest level of monitoring and treatment. Our team uses advanced technologies such as Swan-Ganz, Therapeutic Hypothermia after Cardiac Arrest, Tablo, and IABP, to treat and monitor diseases such as: Acute Coronary Syndrome, STEMI, NSTEMI, ARDS, Diabetic Emergencies, Drug Overdose, GI Bleed, Multi-system Organ Failure, Renal Failure, Respiratory Diseases and Sepsis. Along with the Resident, the Medical/Cardiac ICU staff delivers uncompromised care in an environment of clinical excellence, collaboration, diversity, teamwork, and mutual respect.

Position Requirements:

Education/Skills

• All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
• New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member and initial on-boarding requirements are validated through successful completion of the designated organizational entry competency validation and a Critical Care Department-specific competency validation.
• Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.

Experience

• One year of experience in Critical Care setting preferred but will accept new graduates.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• Current ACLS certification required

In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates are required to obtain required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame.

Credential Grace Periods:

If additional credentials are required per the Position Requirements section, a grace period to obtain the certification will apply, dependent on your experience level.

• Any Candidate/Associate with at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years is considered an Experienced Associate.
• Any Candidate/Associate who does not have at least one year of full-time acute care clinical experience in the same service line within the past three years is considered an Experienced Associate New to the Specialty.
