Lactalis American Group, part of the Lactalis family of companies, is currently hiring a Lab Technician based in Buffalo, NY.
Lab Technician 1 will be responsible for a variety of activities that support and provide technical assistance to Research and Development, Corporate Plants, and Corporate Quality Assurance. Perform routine testing on all Liquid and Solid samples provided to the lab from Plants, QA, and R&D, including company samples and competitor samples as provided by Marketing and Sales.
From your EXPERTISE to ours
Key responsibilities for this position include:
- Perform all analytical tests to properly evaluate each product provided to the laboratory. Testing to include, but is not limited to Fat, Moisture, Calcium, Salt, Protein.
- Sample and provide assistance to have samples tested, when required, at an outside lab for chemistry and microbiology. Provide all analytical data results to Lab Manager and or/Project Manager in an organized and clear format. Carry out daily, weekly and monthly cleaning of analytical equipment and laboratory area. Monitor chemical reagents and notify Lab Manager when supplies are running low.
- Work closely with laboratory staff.
- Provide technical assistance as needed for Aware of and practice Plant's Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as well as Good Sanitation Practices (GSP).

Experience
- 2+ years dairy science experience is favored.
- Must minimally have laboratory experience.
Certifications and specific knowledge
- Solid working knowledge of basic laboratory skills
- Good mathematical skills are required (calculate averages)
- Food industry knowledge is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power point for report

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:1.\tAnalyzes and evaluates information concerning daily operations and how these results positively or negatively affect department performance.2.\tEnsures department is running in a smooth efficient manner, completes supervisor rounds as required. 3.\tWorks with all departments to ensure proper adherence to GMP, GSP and QC policies and procedures and proper maintenance of equipment.4.\tSuggest and debate alternative methods and procedures in problem solving procedure. 5.\tParticipates in operating budget, goals, and objectives of the department and works toward meeting and/or exceeding these expectations.6.\tMonitors punches and ensure there are sufficient personnel including temporary hours. 7.\tCompletes all records and charting as required.8.\tMeets regularly with shift supervisors and sanitation supervisors to stay informed about all issues arising in the department.9.\tDepartment employee meetings conducted on a monthly or bi-monthly basis.10.\tPerforms administrative managerial duties in an accurate, timely and professional manner. Focuses on production, quality and people. Identifies, investigates and works to solve problems that arise. Works closely with department employees and reports any issues to Ricotta Packaging Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.1.\tAssists operators in set up and start of packaging.2.\tInsures performance of quality control checks. 3.\tVerifies code information on all cups, boxes, packages and pallet labels.4.\tCompletes and maintains appropriate paperwork/reports.5.\tVerifies operator logs each hour with signature.6.\tPerforms seal checks on each line each half-hour.7.\tTours entire room on a half-hour basis. 8.\tMonitors product giveaway at check weighers and address any issues with the machine operator.9.\tAssures that proper product sampling is complete and taken to the laboratory in a timely manner. 10.\tReviews metal detection logs, addresses any issues that arise. 11.\tChecks cooling spiral temperatures, spiral speeds, and before and after cooling temperatures.12.\tEnsures sufficient manpower is scheduled for next day's activities. Makes adjustments if necessary.13.\tEnsure that there are sufficient supplies (hoods, arm sleeves, and gloves) for the day.14.\tMaintains employee records including attendance, and write-ups as needed. 15.\tMaintains an open line of communication with all employees in Ricotta Packaging department.16.\tIdentifies, investigates and works to solve any problems that arise in the department.
