The Center for Advanced Medicine - South County is a new outpatient facility, jointly owned by Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, that is under construction in South St. Louis County. The building, scheduled to open in late spring 2016, is located near the Siteman Cancer Center at I-55 and Butler Hill Rd. This new, two-story, approximately 84,500 square foot outpatient facility will include outpatient surgery, imaging, lab, therapy, and Washington University physician subspecialty offices including the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Surgery, and OB/GYN. ; ; The surgery suite includes two operating rooms and two minor procedure rooms. Imaging services will include plain film, CT, MRI, and screening mammography.

The General Surgery floor and intermediate care unit is located on north campus in the Schoenberg Pavilion and is a bariatric center of excellence. The nurses care for patients who undergo innovative surgeries including plastic reconstruction, minimally invasive surgery, endocrine oncology, and ophthalmology. The intermediate care unit provides monitoring of adult surgical patients that do not meet criteria for ICU but require a higher level of care such as continuous cardiac monitoring, frequent I & O, end-tidal CO2 monitoring, initiation of CPAP/BIPAP, frequent vital signs, and intravenous medication management of approved medications.

The Graduate Nurse Expedition Program at Barnes-Jewish Hospital is a unique, rotational opportunity designed for newly graduated nurses who are exploring which nursing specialty best fits their long-term career goals. This program allows graduate nurses to gain hands-on experience across multiple specialty medical-surgical units during their first year of practice, providing valuable exposure, skill development, and career clarity.

The Expedition Program is only offered at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and is the only program of its kind within the BJC HealthCare organization.

Program Structure:

- Program will span the first year of employment post-graduation with three different unit rotations for four-months each.
- Participants will be paired 1:1 with a preceptor and utilize the 12 week graduate nurse onboarding pathway during their first rotation.
- Rotations occur across specialty med/surg units
- Program is designed to support progrssional growth, confidence, and informed specialty selection

**Please note: This program does not offer rotations to Women and Infants, ICU, OR or ED floors.**

Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Spring 2026 completion date

• Eligible for Graduate Nurse status with plans to obtain RN licensure per Missouri requirements

• Strong interest in exploring multiple specialty medical-surgical areas

Overview

The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is an international leader in cancer treatment, research, prevention, education and community outreach. Division 7800 ICU is an Oncology designated 25-bed Intensive Care Unit. 10 beds designated to our oncology and bone marrow transplant patients. We provide care to critically ill patients with an oncology, bone marrow transplant diagnosis and patients that have had surgical interventions requiring ICU care. Care of high acuity critically ill patients includes high complexity interventions serving patients of the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), Oncology, and Surgical services. The presence of a multitude of services provides broad experiences for the nurse. Care is coordinated by a multidisciplinary team including oncology nurses, attending physicians, fellows, advanced practice nurses, physician assistance, case managers, social workers, spiritual care, pharmacy and psycho-social support.

Division 7500/75PCU is a fast paced Cardiovascular Surgery division made up of 25 beds with a mix of step down and pcu beds. We care for a variety of complex cardiovascular surgery patients including aortic and abdominal aneurysms, thoracic outlet syndrome, carotid artery disease, aorto-iliac and lower extremity occlusive disease, peripheral vascular disease, arrhythmia surgery, endoscopic coronary artery revascularization, valve repair and many more. The Staff Nurse (RN) is an integral part of the patient care team using critical thinking skills and clinical expertise to continually assess the patients'; status. The Staff Nurse (RN) is trained in critical care and will be certified in BLS, ACLS, ACUTE CARE, arterial line monitoring, and pacer wires.
