Summary:

The unit is a 22-bed Neuro/Surgical ICU, with neuro being the primary focus. We admit a vast array of patients including Strokes with and without TNK administration, head trauma, craniotomies, aneurysm repairs, ICP monitoring, EVD placement/monitoring, and organ procurement. From a surgical standpoint, we care for all patients out of PACU (GI, ORTHO, SPINAL, etc.) with exception to any open hearts. We also admit medical ICU patients and on occasion will take overflow cardiac patients. The floor often has many bedside procedures; chest tube, bronchoscopy, and EGD, to name a few. We have great teamwork and a family atmosphere.

6NTis a36 - private bed unit specializing in cardiac care for patients who have had open heart surgery. We see cardiovascular/thoracic patients that are post-CABG, heart caths, valve replacements, thoracotomies, and many other cardiothoracic surgical procedures. We also see general medical-surgical patients that may have a primary cardiac diagnosis or history with comorbidities that may need telemetry monitoring, as well as those patients needing critical cardiac drips. On 6NT, we train our staff to detect medical issues before they become a problem, so they can respond to those emergent situations quickly and confidently. We have many opportunities for assessments, patient/family teaching, IVs, wound care, lab value analysis and medication administration/ management. We encourage communication and collaboration in an environment that is engaging and rewarding for our health care professionals, as well the patients on our unit.

A3 is a 24-bed unit providing high-acuity care for cardiac and medical-surgical patients with various co-morbidities. We care for post-cardiac intervention patients (e.g., heart catheterizations, AAA stent repairs, TAVRs, EP ablations, pacemaker/ICD placements) and manage specialized devices like Impellas and IABPs, Artic Sun and Tablo XT. We also treat ventilator-dependent patients and those with conditions like hypertension, diabetes, GI bleeds, peripheral vascular disease and renal disease. The unit handles multiple infusions for blood pressure, cardiac issues, thrombolytics, sedation and paralytics, as well as post-surgical ICU care. Our goal is to deliver exceptional, evidence-based care through teamwork and positive outcomes.

The CHRISTUS Spohn South Labor and Delivery, Antepartum and Obstetrical Emergency Departments are all staffed by one group of associates that are crossed trained in all three areas. Registered Nurses, OB Surgical Technicians, Certified Nurse Aides and Unit Secretaries make up our wonderful team of associates. In addition, we have 24-hour CRNA coverage for maternity anesthesia and our OBED is staffed within-house OB Hospitalist to accept transfers, care for patients and handle emergencies 24 hours a day. We average about 220 deliveries per month. We are capable of providing care for our patients in need of Non-stress test, Amniocentesis, Induction of Labor, Management of Postpartum complications such as hemorrhage or elevated blood pressure, and have the capability to begin an emergency section within 30 minutes of decision time and recognized as a Texas Ten Step for Breastfeeding. CVICU is an8-bedICUunit. The staff are highly specialized in cardiovascular services such as post-open heart, thoracotomy, and vascular services. Position Requirements:
Education/Skills
- All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
- New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member and initial on-boarding requirements are validated through successful completion of the designated organizational entry competency validation and an Emergency Department- specific competency validation.
- All newly licensed RNs may participate in a residency program or other specific orientation. Skills completion and competency completion will be achieved with the preceptor at the bedside and documented through the program's tracking software.
- Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.
Experience
- One year of experience in a related nursing specialty preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
- Current ACLS certification required
- Current PALS certification required
- Current TNCC certification required
In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates are required to obtain required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame.
Credential Grace Periods:
If additional credentials are required per the Position Requirements section, a grace period to obtain the certification will apply, dependent on your experience level.
- Any Candidate/Associate with at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years is considered an Experienced Associate.
- Any Candidate/Associate who does not have at least one year of full-time acute care clinical experience in the same service line within the past three years is considered an Experienced Associate New to the Specialty.
