About the Role
As a clinician, you are an expert in the assessment, evaluation, and diagnosis of health conditions for your patients. As an independent contractor with VES, you apply your expertise in the evaluation and diagnosis of eye conditions to support a Veteran’s disability claim. As a certified medical disability examiner, you gather and synthesize clinical evidence through medical and military record review, interviews with Veterans, and face-to-face examinations. You develop a medical opinion of likelihood that the Veteran’s condition is related to their military service. The timely and expert examination assures that a Veteran’s claim is heard and dutifully processed by VBA.
Here is a typical workflow for a provider: Exam Request Received > Testing and Exam Schedule > Provider Reviews Records > Veteran Exam Completion > Report Reviewed and Submitted.
Responsibilities
- Gather and synthesize clinical evidence through medical and military record review.
- Conduct interviews with Veterans and perform face-to-face examinations.
- Develop a medical opinion regarding the likelihood that the Veteran’s condition is related to their military service.
- Ensure timely and expert examination of claims.
Qualifications

- An active and unrestricted license in the state in which exams are performed.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- The physician serves as medical director for skilled nursing facilities (SNF) and participates in administrative and quality initiatives for the facilities he or she is responsible for;
- Medical directorship functions include attending and participating in monthly quality assurance and process improvement meetings; participating in quality improvement initiatives; providing guidance to facility staff; reviewing and revising (if necessary) facility's clinical guidelines; insuring compliance with state and federal regulations, training facility staff; and supervising facility clinical staff.
- In addition to the medical director role, the physician also serves as the attending physician for the residents residing at each facility;
- The physician collaborates with Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants to manage day to day resident care at each facility. Typically, each facility will have a full-time PA or NP assigned to the facility depending on the acuity and volume of the patient population;
- Physician will provide high quality, patient-centered, comprehensive primary care services by rounding on patients residing in SNFs;
- Physician is responsible for diagnosing and treating patients with acute illness, such as bacterial and viral infections, as well as chronic diseases and conditions, such as hypertension, heart disease, or diabetes
- Physician must be able to supervise collaborating nurse practitioners and physicians assistants
Compensation
- Compensation ranges approximately from $1,100 - $1,500 per day

- Experience with managed care and EHR systems

- Leads the clinic(s) to ensure that O&P patient care services are provided in an exemplary and professional manner, recognizing that he/she is a role model to other personnel.

- Works closely with and utilizes the experience of leadership and works with other central office personnel to assure that all policies and procedures are implemented and thoroughly followed at all times.
- Participates in the development and adoption of the region's annual plan and budget and in consultation with company leadership and manages the clinical operations towards such forecasts.
- Conducts all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the standards as established by the professional agencies and by the laws and regulations of the state and local jurisdiction.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of the policies and procedures of payor sources and demonstrates such in the conduct of regular practice.
- Develops continuing and new referral sources relationships and demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
